Early Childhood Education

Children who participate in quality pre-school programs have better health, social-emotional and educational outcomes than those who do not. These gains are particularly powerful for children from low-income families.

In Uganda, early childhood education has been left entirely to the parents. 80% of children who are ready to go to preschools come from humble families in rural areas. And yet, research shows that the foundation for learning are largely built in the early years of life. Reaching children early is the best way to build the future that works for all.

GEF is currently working together with the community to implement, early childhood development program in Bbinikira Primary School. The community is giving space, furniture and have fund raised to pay for a teacher for the first year. GEF is providing teacher trainings including behavior management that does not include corporal punishment.
